ImageGoodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina is a nonprofit organization that serves the local community by selling donated items to fund employment and training programs that help people find hope, opportunity, and jobs. Each year, Goodwill  recycles more than 40 million pounds of unwanted goods through its donated goods operations. As part of their commitment to sustainability, Goodwill has built nine LEED-Certified facilities and are working with PEA on rooftop solar and EV charging solutions.

 

The Mast General Store is a historic, family and employee-owned retailer that offers a wide variety of goods, including clothing, outdoor gear, footwear, and old-fashioned candy, in a charming, old-timey atmosphere. The original store was established in 1883 in Valle Crucis, North Carolina, and it now has eleven locations across four states, including a store on Trade St. in downtown  Winston-Salem.

 

MUSE w/s is a history museum located in Winston-Salem whose mission is to connect, enrich, and enlarge the community through history, storytelling, and informed, balanced perspective. MUSE is proactively working with PEA on installing rooftop solar on their museum.

 

 

Piedmont Federal Savings Bank focuses on offering sound financial solutions that truly fit people’s lives. They are a proactive member of PEA's historic Solarize The Triad campaign and offer sustainable financial products, like carbon-free mortgages, solar loans, and paperless statements. Piedmont also helps drive our region’s Affordable Healthy Homes movement with their support of organizations like Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County and Habitat for Humanity Davie County.

 

Second Harvest is the primary food resource for a network of hundreds of food assistance programs across 18 counties in Northwest North Carolina, and plays a crucial role in nourishing our region. PEA helped Second Harvest install one of the largest rooftop solar systems in the state history on their roof, which is not only helping avoid nearly 1M pounds of climate pollution each year but also channeling energy savings back into feeding our community.

Imagea/perture cinema is a non-profit art house cinema that showcases informative, educational, thought-provoking, and inspiring films. They reduce waste with robust composting and recycling programs (assisted by fellow Green Business Network member Triad Compost Service), accessible electric vehicle charging stations for theater-goers, and locally sourced concessions (including from fellow Green Business Network member Wise Man Brewing)

 

The Art SHAC is a nonprofit creative reuse center that provides affordable, gently used art supplies from community donations, promotes sustainability by diverting materials from landfills, and offers upcycled art classes to foster creativity and community. They are a volunteer-run organization that keeps tons of reusable materials in circulation, making art accessible for all ages and educators.

 

Bao Yeah! is a food truck here in the Triad serving up in-your-face delicious street food featuring bold, unapologetic Asian fusion flavors, primarily combining Korean and Chinese cuisines.

 

Bashavia Gardens is a native plant nursery and ecological garden design and services firm dedicated to creating beautiful, resilient gardens that play a functional role in the greater ecosystem. Bashavia utilizes almost exclusively native plants in our designs and informed, sustainable horticultural practice in our garden management.

Bookmarks is one of the only nonprofit independent bookstores in the country,  with year-round programming for all ages and robust outreach working to make our community stronger. They also host the annual Bookmarks Festival each September. Bookmarks wants to build a community where books provide connection and belonging for everyone.

 

Camino Bakery is a community-driven bakery & coffeehouse in the heart of Winston-Salem that is driving down operations costs and air pollution with their electric delivery van and, in collaboration with local farmers, reducing massive volumes of waste through composting.

Fair Witness is a neighborhood cocktail bar serving creative drinks in downtown Winston-Salem and is committed to sustainable operations: from fossil-fuel free heating and cooling, to planting trees to offset ongoing operations, to running their own glass up-cycling operation in support of community gardens.

For the Trees is makes natural, sustainable deodorants and other products, with a mission to save the earth by prioritizing sustainability over profits, donating to environmental causes and committing to zero waste practices. For the Trees is based in Greensboro.

 

Genesis Solar Electric LLC is a solar company based in Winston-Salem that provides consumers with photovoltaic module systems that best fit their energy consumption needs.

 

Good Soup is local taste specialist Sie Rhodes, who makes “pretty dang good” vegan and vegetarian soups which she sells at Cobblestone Farmers Market and at Low Five Archive, the analog media store she runs with her husband.

 

Grind Vine Consulting LLC is a sustainable project management consulting firm specializing in sustainable project management, workforce development, grant management, marketing, and program optimization. Grind Vine takes clients from ideation to execution.

 

The mission of Hickory Tree Turkey BBQ is to provide delicious tasty southern inspired fare while supporting overall health, offering wholesome, delicious, unique comfort foods in local restaurants, at festivals and fairs, and soon, in your local grocery stores.

 

Latent Designs is a woman-owned firm  founded by Winston-Salem-based architect Lauren Frye and focuses exclusively on the principle and concept of  ‘adaptive reuse’. You can see examples of Lauren's beautiful work at Lesser-Known Beer Co., Camino Bakery’s Brookstown location (both Green Business Network members), and Lot 63 in Old Salem.

M Creative is a local design firm and B Corporation that provides values-driven strategic communications to mission-driven organizations and nonprofits. M Creative established and implemented a number of energy efficiency and conservation goals, from converting lighting to LED bulbs, eliminating single-use paper items, installing programmable thermostats, and locally sourcing at least half of their supplies, and have begun to work on a comprehensive sustainability policy to guide future sustainability efforts.

 

Mona + Associates Design, LLC, founded by Mona King, is a Winston-Salem, NC-based design firm specializing in Biophilic Design, creating nature-inspired, human-centered environments for wellness through interior architecture, living art installations(Living Aura), consulting, and workshops. They focus on sustainable, creative design that connects people with nature, offering services for commercial and residential spaces, emphasizing art, wellness, and environmental consciousness.

 

MaxieB's is a longstanding bakery in Greensboro that makes delicious cakes and pies using time-tested Southern recipes and local, organic ingredients. MaxieB.’s serves their delicious desserts in “green” packaging made here in the USA, uses safe, non-toxic cleaning products, and composts paper, food and floral waste.

 

MO’Empanadas serves up authentic, great-tasting Colombian street food from its colorful food truck in locations throughout the Triad. They have adopted zero waste practices and are committed to electrification and clean energy.  MOs uses compostable tableware, includes vegan food offerings on their menu, and advocates for electrification to help mobile food businesses ditch noisy and costly gas-powered generators.

Piedmont Plants uses local seed sources whenever possible, ensuring that their plants are fully adapted to local soil and weather conditions, and that they provide the best possible support to pollinators, birds and other wildlife in our area.

 

Renewable Energy Design Group (RED Group) is a leading NABCEP-certified solar energy contractor here in the Triad for residential, commercial, and non-profit solar projects. Based in Lewisville, RED Group has been delivering solar and battery energy storage installations since 2012, and is the first solar company in the Green Business Network.

 

Robert Rust Foods sells ready to eat burritos at farmers markets, bars, and breweries.The company produces a variety of frozen burritos and bowls that are sold in grocery stores across North Carolina and hot, ready-to-eat burritos that are sold from the back of his vintage scooter once owned by his grandfather and company namesake. 

 

S.G. Atkins CDC is a non-profit organization that strives to create community-based leadership focused on revitalizing the neighborhoods surrounding Winston-Salem State University. They have been reducing their building’s emissions with rooftop solar and their headquarters, The Enterprise Center, boasts a stunning community garden. Their shared-use kitchen supports area culinary entrepreneurs, including fellow Green Business Network member Robert Rust Foods.

 

Salem Academy and College, a private, four-year liberal arts college, is one of the oldest educational institutions for girls and women in the United States (it is in fact older than the United States) and the thirteenth-oldest college in the US overall. Salem’s programs include an Environmental Studies major and the college boasts a dynamic student-led ECO Club.

 

Founded by Pasquale Caccavella, a certified Soil Food Web Laboratory Technician, Salem Soil Solutions helps individuals and communities regenerate soil and grow healthier plants through biology, not chemicals. Using amendments such as worm castings, compost, compost teas, and extracts, SSS restores the living soil microbiology that drives ecosystem resilience, plant vitality, and human health and reduces reliance on pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers. Salem Soil Solutions also offers mid- to large-scale equipment to ensure these applications are delivered effectively and thoughtfully.

SPARK (Share Peace and Rekindle Kindness, Inc.) designs and manages community service experiences in order to help our neighbors in need and spread kindness to all.

 

The Twin City Track Club (TCTC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting running and fitness in the Winston-Salem area since 1977. It is the city's oldest and one of the largest running clubs in the Southeast, welcoming walkers and runners of all abilities.

 

Triad Compost Service provides food waste collection for residents and businesses throughout the North Carolina Triad. Our dependable and professional service make composting simple and easy for everyone. We believe keeping food waste out of landfills positively impacts our community and our planet.

 

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Winston-Salem has been a leader in social reform since its formation in the 1950s.  In 2006, UUFWS hosted the first annual Piedmont Earth Day Fair. The UU Fellowship is one of about 1,000 congregations that make up the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), based in Boston. And, we are part of the Southern Region, which assists us in supporting and working together with congregations geographically located nearby. Although each congregation is autonomous, we receive assistance and support from our national and regional organizations.

 

Village Fabric Shop specializes in quality apparel and quilting fabrics, environmentally responsible textiles, notions, and crafting goods that inspire people to create, celebrate craft traditions, and connect with others. Village Fabric’s Reuse Shop embodies “reduce, reuse, recycling”, diverting thousands of pieces of fabric from landfills each and every year. 2024 Green Business of The Year winner

 

Wise Man Brewing is a beer manufacturing company that produces a wide range of beers and features a taproom. A 34kw rooftop solar system has been powering Wise Man since Earth Day 2018, and they keep their food truck partners “electrified” with accessible and reliable outdoor plugs. Wiseman is always looking out for mission-driven nonprofits with their monthly Health, Wealthy, and Wise round-up program.
