Piedmont Environmental Alliance seeks a highly-motivated environmental educator and change-maker to build our programs and support our growing organization.

Who We Are:

Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) inspires people to make choices that protect and restore the environment. Based in Winston-Salem, NC, we focus on education, community engagement, and events to increase environmental awareness and stewardship throughout the region.

Our signature event is the Piedmont Earth Day Fair, the largest Earth Day celebration and one-day environmental education event in the region. Our education programs include: Energy Explorers and Every Drop Counts, in-classroom presentations on water and energy conservation presented to middle school students throughout Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools; and Environmental Debate, a platform for local high school students to engage in competitive, academic debate on leading environmental issues. We are currently developing new community engagement opportunities to expand our impact in the region.

Job Responsibilities:

The Program Coordinator will implement and grow PEA’s environmental education programs, and support the organization’s marketing, fundraising, and events. The Program Coordinator must be an energetic and confident presenter, savvy event planner, and excellent volunteer manager.

  • Present environmental education programs in WS/FCS Middle School classrooms.
  • Manage all aspects of PEA’s environmental education programs, including creating program concepts and curricula, participant recruitment, implementation plans and timelines, and marketing programs to the community.
  • Collect and analyze key performance indicators for programs and make recommendations based on specific metrics.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteer leaders to support programs.
  • Maintain and strengthen key partnerships, such as the WS/FC School District, university partners, local environmental nonprofits and government agencies to grow programs.
  • Identify program grant opportunities and corporate partnerships, and work with the Executive Director to secure program funding.
  • Serve as program committee chairperson for the Piedmont Earth Day Fair and work with committee to provide dynamic, interactive and engaging programs for the fair.
  • Develop social media, web, and email content for the organization.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

  • You are a savvy event planner, who can help organize events for 100 to 10,000 people.
  • You are a natural relationship builder, you work collaboratively and enjoy working with passionate volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • You are a passionate community organizer, comfortable reaching out to people of all ages to involve them in our organization.
  • You are a polished writer with a knack for marketing – from email newsletters to web content and beyond.
  • You enjoy your work and are comfortable with striving for amazing results on a shoestring budget.
  • You have a personal passion for the outdoors, environmental stewardship and sustainability, and have taken action to get involved in the issues you care about.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, and a minimum of three years of experience working in education and/or program coordination.
Compensation:

This is a part-time position for 20-25 hours per week (with potential for additional hours as resources allow). The salary range is $16,000 - $25,000 /annually, depending on hours and commensurate with experience. Benefits include paid time off and a flexible work schedule.
