North Carolina is the most ecologically unique, or biodiverse, state in the southeast US. There are three main regions in the state: Appalachian Highlands, Piedmont, and the Coastal Plain. The center of the state, including Forsyth County, makes up the Piedmont region. This region is known for its rolling hills and urban areas. Biodiversity means that there is variety among all living things in an ecosystem, including bugs, plants, and animals. It is essential to the health of the Piedmont region for biodiversity to exist.

As you visit each location, make sure to take note of your surroundings. What animals or plants do you see? How do you see biodiversity between parks? Is everyone taking good care of the outdoor area, or do you see litter/pollution?

Check out Forsyth County Parks and Recreation to find a new local park or river to visit and for other relevant information.

Take a photo of your visit and share it on social media. Make sure to tag @peancorg and #PEAYoungLeaders to be entered into the weekly Young Eco Leaders Raffle.
