Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch sponsors this "Green Read": Spirit Run: A 6,000-Mile Marathon Through North America's Stolen Land.
In this New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, the son of working-class Mexican immigrants flees a life of labor in fruit-packing plants to run in a Native American marathon from Canada to Guatemala. The book describes the difficulties he has to overcome as well as asserting Indigenous and working-class humanity in a world where oil extraction, deforestation, and substance abuse tear communities apart. The book will be available for pickup at the branch prior to the program. To register, e-mail Melanie Buckingham.
