Historic Bethabara Visitor Center

Join the Forsyth Audubon for their January Chapter Meeting featuring Dr. Joe Poston, Chair of the Biology Department of Catawba College.

Dr. Poston will talk about “the pleasures of anti-mowing” – his synopsis: “One spring I chose not to mow a small cluster of fleabane that volunteered in my yard. Then, I noticed small insects I’d never seen before visiting the fleabane. So on a whim I stopped mowing an even larger patch of lawn in hopes of seeing more new plants and insects. My only rules were not to mow and not to intervene with the plants and animals that chose to use the patch. Over the next year and a half, I documented over 100 species of plants and animals in my small meadow. In this photo-based talk, I’ll share some of the pleasures of anti-mowing.”

Location:  The Historic Bethabara Visitor Center is located at 2171 Bethabara Road in Winston-Salem
