See the inspirational grassroots work of 12 young people recognized with the nation's top youth environmental prize - the Brower Youth Awards.  These 13 to 22 year olds in North America have shown outstanding leadership on a project or campaign with positive environmental and social impact.  The awardees are charismatic young heroes for planet Earth, whose stories, struggles, and victories inspire people of all ages.

Economist Pietra Rivoli to Speak at Wake Forest University

Pietra Rivoli, economist and author of The Travels of a T-Shirt in the Global Economy, will deliver an hour-long lecture followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.  Rivoli spent five years tracing the path of a simple cotton t-shirt from a Texas cotton field to a Chinese factory to a used clothing market in Africa to investigate compelling questions about the politics, economics, ethics, and history of modern business and globalization.

Learn to Cook Local with Mary Haglund of Winston-Salem's Breakfast of Course! (Mary's Too)

Cobblestone Farmer's Market might be sleeping for the winter, but that doesn't mean you can't eat locally in the off season!  Cultivate Piedmont, the same program that puts on the Cobblestone Farmer's Market brings you the next installment in their Learn to Cook Local cooking class series.  Come learn how to cook seasonally appropriate winter dishes from Mary Haglund, owner of Winston-Salem's Breakfast of Course! (Mary's Too).  Mary is a dedicated Cobblestone patron, and Cobblestone vendors are always on the menu at her restaurant (which was doing fresh, local and from scratch long before it was cool!)  Class includes take home recipes and a meal. Spaces are limited and registration and pre-payment is required so please sign up soon!  

Piedmont Triad Sustainable Communities Planning Project Civic Forum- Guilford County

Over the next several months Piedmont Triad Sustainable Communities Planning Project will host a series of Civic Forums to encourage Piedmont Triad Residents to give input on the Strengths and Challenges of their community and the Region. Civic Forums are being held in all 12 of the Piedmont Triad counties. At each forum attendees will have an opportunity to participate in an interactive small group activity. You will also be able to learn more about the overall project.  This meeting will take place at the Culler Senior Center, 600 N.

Green Transportation: Working for a Balanced Transportation System

Wiggly Worm Program at the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem

The Great Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. Transition Greensboro Community Potluck

Join Transition Greensboro for their February potluck which will feature Mark Kirstner, Project Manager in Piedmont Triad Sustainable Communities Planning Project (PTSCPP), who will present the regional plans of a cooperative effort between several different organizations in the Piedmont Triad region to promote a sustainable future for our 12 county region.

The three year PTSCPP project is guided by the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation and the Piedmont Triad Regional Council with support from 29 non-profit and municipal, county and state agencies.
