Volt Energy Completes Downtown Winston-Salem’s First Solar Energy Project
In the NewsVolt Energy, an early stage renewable energy firm, announced today it has completed the first solar powered electric generating project located in downtown Winston-Salem. The roof top system is located at 224 Town Run Lane at the office of ophthalmologist Dr. David Branch. The 10kw solar panel powered system is part of a state-wide initiative to encourage the generation of energy through clean alternative energy sources. The clean energy produced will be sold to Duke Energy.
According to Volt Energy Partner Gilbert Campbell, an important factor that helps make this project and solar energy more feasible is the green energy incentive program sponsored by North Carolina GreenPower. “This not-for-profit organization pays solar energy producers for sending green energy back to the electric grid as part of its efforts to promote and accelerate North Carolina’s adoption of clean energy.”
“Solar panel systems can be engineered to fit most any roof space and its low profile design is virtually invisible from the street level. Companies can monitor the efficiency and energy output of their system in real-time to measure the amount of energy being used or fed into the power grid.” says Volt Energy Co-Partner Antonio Francis.
Mayor Allen Joines also believes that this type of project can help the city reduce its carbon footprint, and demonstrate the financial and environmental advantages for companies to develop alternative energy projects.
