- Get information on home energy audits including what one entails, where to find professionals who perform them, and how to do your own.
- Sign up for a free home energy audit through Duke Energy.
Weatherize
- Caulk and weather strip doors and windows.
- Replace aging heating systems with high-efficiency models. (Look for appliances with the best Energy Star rating.). You might qualify for a rebate from Duke Energy. See the Duke Energy Smart Saver Program.
- Wear a sweater. Turn down the thermostat, Insulate your hot water heater and turn in down to 120 degrees.
- Insulate, insulate, insulate. There are many great products on the market: Recycled Cotton Batten Insulation, Owens-Corning now offers a formaldehyde-free Eco-Touch insulation.
- Consider using spray foam insulation.

- The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps low‐income North Carolinians save energy and reduce utility bills by educating people about energy efficiency, providing professional audits, and completing minor weatherization repairs for clients.
