Mission & Vision:
The mission of Piedmont Environmental Alliance, Inc. (PEA) is to inspire people to make choices that protect and restore the environment.
Working as a catalyst for change in our communities, PEA will inspire thousands to join forces and leverage the collective power of individual actions to protect and restore our environment, which supports and nourishes us all.
History:
In 2005, a small group of friends joined together to create a family friendly event to celebrate Earth Day. Through word of mouth and targeted phone calls, an organizing committee was formed to host the first annual Piedmont Earth Day Fair. The response from the community and local groups was positive. Organizers and attendees benefited from having many environmentally-focused organizations at a single event. Shortly after the first Fair, the organizing committee formed Piedmont Environmental Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the Piedmont Triad community on environmental issues.
Since then, PEA has become the leading regional source of information and inspiration on environmental sustainability. PEA supports local environmental groups and green businesses by promoting their work, products, and services, and facilitating networking opportunities. PEA is a catalyst for change by working with community leaders to identify issues of common concern and by educating the public on these issues. By bringing together local citizens, nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools and governments, PEA has created an alliance that works together toward the common commitment of building an environmentally sustainable community.
