Science Cafe: From Waste to Fuel--the Future of Biodiesel

Tuesday, September 21, 2010 - 7:00pm

Biodiesel can help us meet contemporary needs for environmental stewardship, economic prosperity, and quality of life without compromising the ability of future generations to meet these needs. Learn how a Wake Forest University group is developing a solid catalyst to make it possible to turn waste cooking oil, animal fat, and oil extracted from municipal waste treatment into fuel to run diesel-powered cars, trucks, and electricity generators. Abdou Lachgar, Professor of Chemistry at WFU will be the speaker.

The event will be held at Big Shotz Tavern, 109 S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, 27103. No registration. Free.  Science Cafe is an international movement that brings people together for an evening of discussion about science. Scientists make a short presentation about their work and then encourage participants to join the conversation.  This event is sponsored by Reynolda Gardens of Wake Forest University; SciWorks; and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.
